Mission: to help homeless pregnant women by providing a loving family environment in a safe and secure shelter.

Good Counsel provides love, support and tools needed for stability and success, providing a stable Christian home for any pregnant homeless woman, including the mentally ill and those suffering from substance abuse, for the duration of their pregnancy and up to a year afterwards. Our assistance includes educational and vocational assistance and professional counseling, a 24/7 crisis pregnancy hotline, referrals to regional assistance programs, a life skills program for mothers, transitional support for those leaving the program, technology training programs, post-abortive counseling, and the support and Christian environment of our homes for mothers.

We are always ready to welcome great volunteers! Donors and volunteers can join Good Counsel and help our families get a new start in life in a variety of ways, from the smallest details to the most complex. From fundraising and friend-raising to teaching, mentoring and sharing time and talents, plenty of volunteer opportunities exist in both the Good Counsel offices and residences. We are also in need of prayer volunteers. Please be aware that Good Counsel will conduct background checks of our volunteers at our sole discretion.

Mission: The Hoboken Shelter’s mission is to be a community partnership that transforms lives by providing meals for the hungry, shelter for the homeless, & services to support people to become housed.

We shelter 50 people nightly, serve 200 meals daily, and provide such support services as food, shelter, case management, counseling, job and life skills training, creative arts workshops, and emergency homelessness prevention grants. These services help our homeless guests develop the skills needed to gain employment, achieve independence, and re-integrate into the community. The shelter is owned and operated by Communities of Faith for Housing, Inc., a non-profit housing corporation made up of ministers and laity from houses of worship, as well as several Hoboken community leaders.

Volunteers can help in various areas. For our daily dinner, you can come and serve dinner 6-8:15pm, donate food for 100 guests, donate money for a dinner, or donate frozen meats. For Friday lunch, clothes distribution, and showers, you can come from 11am-3pm to sort clothes for distribution, serve lunch, or clean up. You can make, wrap, and deliver sandwiches for lunches. You can sort food and clothing donations Monday through Thursday, 11am-3pm. You can coordinate collection of supplies (see our website for a list of needed items). You can come before dinner, at 6-7pm to mentor, tutor, and play board games with our guests. Or you can fundraise for the shelter. Your support makes a difference!

The YMCA offers a variety of programs, including financial aid and scholarship assistance. Other Youth and Teen programs include After School Child Care, Music/Drama, Holiday Camp, Summer Day Camp, Photography and darkroom, Leaders Club, Teen Center, Sports Clinics, Art Classes, Yoga, Weight Training, Hip Hop dance and Salsa, and other sports classes and events. Adult programs include numerous sports/fitness events and classes, morning babysitting, and other special events and lectures.

Volunteers are welcomed in the following areas: Marketing and Public Relations, to work with YMCA administrative staff to develop and implement ongoing marketing and PR for all YMCA programs and services; Special Events Staff, to help at health fairs, music & art festivals, fundraising events, and more; and Coaches, who can help guide a team to victory and leave a lasting impression on a young person by instilling in them values and mission of the YMCA. HOPES provides community services to a wide range of individuals and families. Early Childhood Services include legal representation for students and advocacy for school reform and improvement; early childhood education and development; health and nutrition programs; family and community partnerships; child wellness services; childcare; and parenting workshops. Youth Services include after-school activities with technical learning and development of hands-on skills; and summer computer classes. Adult Services include job search assistance; professional development workshops; and adult classes in ESL, computer literacy, and adult basic education, including reading/writing and math classes. Senior Services include assisted transportation, information and assistance accessing relevant services and entitlement programs, educational services, and home visits. Community Assistance Services include assistance applying for entitlement programs.

In Jesus' Name Charities is a collective compassionate and spiritual response to poverty in our community in which people may do small acts of kindness and sharing to comfort and help their neighbors in need. It operates an ongoing emergency food response, and verifies needs and coordinates a network of volunteers and donors to meet those needs. IJN was founded in 1981 when the Hoboken Clergy Coalition formed to respond to the various needs of the poor of Hoboken and is tax exempt as a church organization hosted by Our Lady of Grace Church.

Volunteers can help in the following areas: Core Volunteer Staff - help distribute and organize resources (those with weekday availability are especially needed); Collection Facilitators - mediate collections at your church, organization, or work site, or spearhead a one-time collection; Transportation - help in the delivery of food packages to homebound individuals, or agree to be contacted to move donations between resource banks; Clerical Help - Computer graphic preparation of certain mailings and appeals, forms, and thank you notes designed; Celebrate School Success - sponsor a child's improved report card with a $25 gift certificate incentive; Literacy Volunteer - Participate in our Literacy events and other gatherings and parties, to benefit poor children in the community; Benefactors - Fulfill specific crisis needs that fall beyond the means of the resource banks.

The Jubilee Center is an after school and summer safe haven for children in Hoboken's public housing neighborhood; a neighborhood with a history of gang activity, violent crime and drug-related arrests. The Center provides quality after school programming for over seventy students from K-6th grade from 3-6pm during the school year and 8:30am-6pm during the summer. The Center also provides needed activities full time during school breaks throughout the year. The Jubilee Center is a project of All Saints Community Service and Development Corporation, a non-sectarian, non-profit organization.

Programs include: Homework Help and Tutoring, every weekday of the academic year 3:15-4:30pm and Monday through Thursday nights 6-7pm; Enrichment, including dance, voice, poetry, creative writing, cooking and visual arts Monday through Thursday 4:30-5:30pm; Evening Meals; Field Trips and Community Events, which have included potlucks, birthday parties, nutrition workshops for parents, field trips to the Liberty Science Center, Yankee Stadium, and more; Civic Outreach, to hospital patients, an assisted living facility, and fundraising for meal programs; and a seven-week Summer Program.

At Mustard Seed School, we teach the whole child: intellectual, physical, social, emotional and spiritual. We do this through a hands-on, experiential education and a unique integration of strong academics, arts, faith and service. Students learn a core knowledge base and develop essential life skills. The school has 149 students grades K-8, and 42 preschool students and in addition to the traditional academic subjects of language, math, science, and social studies, also has activities in music, art, gym, science, drama, library, tutoring, support resources, worship, and other gatherings.

Supported by donations and staffed by volunteers, the Lunch Time Ministry provides food and a welcome to 25-75 guests each day it is open. Volunteers are always needed. We also need donations of coffee, iced tea, jelly, milk, sugar, hot dog buns, mustard, ketchup, spaghetti sauce, napkins, paper towels, canned soup and fruit, cookies or money to buy groceries.

| Tuesday's NIGHT LIFE | Tuesday | Varies | 8 PM | Life can be so great and so sad all in one day (specially with us girls)! In our dinner group we understand that there will be nights we celebrate with you and nights we cry with you. This dinner group is all about loving God, loving one another and loving those around us.
With that in mind, twice a month we get together as a small group for dinner (we ALSO love food!) and dive deeper into what was talked about on Sunday mornings and what we are personally working through. Once a month we get together with our other half of the Tuesday night group (the lovely "What Happens in Tuesday Stays in Tuesday" group) and serve our community through both big and small service projects. Also once a month we come together with our other half or all the other dinner groups to simply connect and have fun!
We understand that we're all in this journey together. That means you are able to come as you are and know that anything discussed in our group does not leave our group. We accept each other - flaws and all. However we never stop encouraging each other to grow and get to know God better. We do this so we can begin to live a life of joy and significance!
